Standardised Subjectiveness

People loves standards, almost always seeking to be seen as someone percieved as better than average by those standards. What perplexes me most is that its particular prominent in areas that are highly subjective. Ironic as it may sound, yet ubiquitous it is.

A common instance is that of wine tasting. Whether a wine is good or not shld be, in my opinion, highly subjective. It is good if u like the taste, no good if its not. Yet ppl tends to shift their taste towards those of the "so-called" experts (has always wondered who decides who shld be an expert), seeking to be percieved as someone who know their wines, which year, which brand is gd, that they are someone with good taste. So that they can be seen as an expert too.

Another common instance is that of food. Whether one like a particular food or not largely depends on his/her culture, the food that he/she is used to eating, the taste that he/she is more prone towards. Yet ppl are often overheard saying that others don't appreciate good food, that others have never tasted what was really nice, that others dunno how to eat (buay hiau jiak). What's wrong with these ppl? Why shld their taste be the standard?

And the list goes on....
